This, I learned, is what the NHS is about — common decency. It is about the shared belief that all the people who live in the United Kingdom constitute a society, and a decent society provides certain necessities for its members. Freedom from hunger is one. Police protection is another. Free healthcare from the cradle to the grave is simply one more item on this list.

Just think how different life would be if there were no “progressive” liberals with their hands out all the time. Buncha dead weight, they are.

Britian is one of those perfect examples to do socialized medicine here. The Brits are just now experiencing the beginings of rationed care. After a few short years, their nightmare is just beginning. In a poll completed about two years ago, close to 40% of all Brits admitted to home dental procedures, (pulling their own teeth.) Gaining social equality by denying everyone health care is not compassionate, it is just plain mean.
What a bunch of bastards those Brits are, helping all their citizens. Treating them all equally instead of wallets with legs. Call the UN!
This down dinging is unwarranted. There are those who approve of the NHS and those who have had favourable experiences. There are also good things about the NHS.
There are also problems with the NHS that are not covered in the article, massive bureaucracy and managerial costs, wait times for operations, diagnostics and specialists visits that are quite intolerable and so on. On balance it is much worse than the US system, however, it is wrong to refuse to accept its good points.

treating people equally is a terrible thing to do, if you are mis-treating them. Nobody in this country is treated like wallets with legs. The fact of the matter is that the poor in our country are able to access top flight medical care. those who are able to pay for it, are expected to do so. this is not about helping citizens, this debate is about a governmental power grab. When we kicked you Brits out of our nation over 200 years ago, it was about getting rid of a tyranical, oppressive government. there are those of us who do not wish to turn our country into that. If you were truly desiring to help people as you claim, you would wish to provide a system with a track record of success. The system you tout, has a long miserable history of failure coupled with real suffering of your citizens. there is a reason that people from all over the world come to the States when they are ill. It is because our health system is better than anywhere else on the planet. Where are people going to go if the U.S. adopts your failure as their own. Youth and idealism are expected at your obvious young age. Stupidity is never O.K.
